Thanks to the tremendous force in which the water flows in the impressive Cañon del Sumidero, in the state of Chiapas, the hydroelectric plant "Manuel Moreno Torres" is able to supply energy for a vast part of Southeastern Mexico and Central America.

This hydroelectric plant, which is located in the south of Cañon del Sumidero, in the town of Chicoasén, Chiapas, possesses the highest contention screen in the world. Its high productivity is due to the accelerating effect which is brought about by the force the River Grijalva obtains when passing through the canyon. 35% of the energy consumed in our country and 20% of the energy used in Central America is provided by this gigantic power plant.

But this is not all of it: in the Cañon del Sumidero national park one can do boat trips. These are the best option for admiring the tightly packed vegetation and the waterfowls that gratify the atmosphere of Chiapas? forests. By boat one can also reach the scenic vantage points that have camping facilities and are ideal for a lovely picnic.  And, as if all this were not enough, you will also be able to enjoy the warm climate which stays on in comfortable temperatures almost throughout the whole year.
