WHERE TO GO AND WHAT TO DO?
Mazatlán
Alter a
trip of 212 km (132 mi) from the city of Culiacán, you can reach the famous Zona Dorada (Gold Region) of Mazatlán,
where you will find the best hotels and restaurants in the region, found
northeast of the historical center of the ancient gate. The pleasant climate of
Mazatlán will fill you with enthusiasm so that you
can fully enjoy the beaches and their activities. Go kayaking in Playa Gaviotas, a white sand beach of mangroves and also
inhabited by exotic species, found in the heart of the Zona
Dorada. Then visit Playa Sábalo,

km (6 mi) northeast of Mazatlán,
where you can take part in sport fishing. Also make your way to the Pista El Bitachi, where you can
mountain bike along the entirety of it 9.6 km (6 mi) trail. You can also visit the
Cerro del Crestón, where you
can climb. At lunchtime, make your way to a restaurant in Plazuela
Machada, to order a plate of machaca de pescado (chopped and seasoned fish)
and another of aguachile
(a mix of cucumber, lemon, piquín peppers and red
onion with shrimp), all accompanied by agua de Jamaica
(sweet juice made from the hibiscus flower). After eating, go by the Plazuela
de la República, where you can acquaint yourself with the
architectural richness of Mazatlán. Visit some of its
most important buildings, like the Catedral de la
Inmaculada Concepción (Cathedral of Immaculate Conception), whose
architectural design joins Moorish and Gothic styles in its details. In the
interior you can observe its main alters and side wings, where there are
frescos of religious scenes. Another is the Palacio Municipal (City Hall) and
the central buildings of Telegraphs and the Post Office. When night falls, go
out for stroll along the levee until you reach Camarón Sábalo Avenue, where you will find various places to dance while
enjoying a refreshing cocktail.
