WHERE TO GO AND WHAT TO DO?
Villahermosa
When you
visit the city of Villahermosa, capital of the state of Tabaso,
let yourself have the pleasure of a somewhat unusual breakfast before beginning
your tour of this destination. Order an exquisite torta de iguana (a
sandwich of iguana) accompanied by a bowl of pozol, (a typical drink of the
region made of corn, water, cocoa and sugar). That way, when you are
finished eating, you will be ready to go out and try all sorts of exciting
things! Head towards
the Parque-Museo La Venta ("The Sale" Park and Museum) which houses one of the
most important collections of olmeca sculpture in the country, and the Tomás Garrido Canabal Park, whose
abundant vegetation will make you feel as if you were in the middle of the jungle. Continue on the Paseo
Tabasco until you encounter the Museo
Regional de Antropología Carlos Pellicer
(Carlos Pellicer Regional Musuem
of Anthropology), where you will see the invaluable collection of pieces
gathered by this Tabascan poet. Right after that, hop
on a bus that will take you to outskirts of the city, including the most modern
area in Villahermosa, known as "Tabasco 2000." There you will
find the Palacio Municipal (City Hall), Centro Administrativo
de Gobierno (Administrative Center of the Government), a Planetario
(Planetarium) and the shopping center called "Galerías
Tabasco 2000," as well as a complex that entails numerous boutiques, restaurants and a
five star hotel. Finally, let yourself be awed by the natural beauty that
surrounds the city. Guide yourself to the Cascadas de
Agua Blanca (Waterfalls of White Water), that will allow you to relax and
meditate before continuing on to the Pantanos de Centla (Centla Swamps), where you
can observe the exotic examples of endemic flora typical of the Tabascan jungle. In the Grutas de
Conconá (Grottos of Conconá),
located 55 km (34 mi) south of Villahermosa, you can see wonderful natural formations. When you
get back to your hotel, look for a restaurant where you can eat something
customary to the region, like a tasty tortilla filled with seafood, accompanied
by a delicious beer.
